Job Hunt Update
The past few months have a been a bit of a journey. After graduating from Flatiron’s bootcamp, I have been applying all over the place for jobs. Today’s blog is meant as a first-hand experience of the struggles of being an aspiring software engineer without a degree.
For the past four months, I have been living off of savings while I have been applying for jobs. I currently have had two interviews that haven’t gotten past an initial meet and greet. It has been pretty difficult to find motivation to apply for jobs when I seem to be only getting rejection emails. This hasn’t been an easy road but I am still going down it. I have hosted a project, attended seminars and scoured linkedin and other sites for positions. For anyone who is in a similar boat, I would tell them not to give up. I am not. I am using this as a chance to reinvent myself. I can’t be stuck in a mindset that I am an ideal candidate, so I have been doing whatever new idea people have recommended to me. Not great at CSS? I am spending time honing that skill. I know that my first break is right around the corner because it has to be. I am staying positive because I will need to be in the right mindset when the time comes. I knew this would be a long road when I signed up for it but I was unaware of how mentally taxing it can be. For now, all I can do is keep plugging away and taking all the advice I can get.
